June Rebecca Taylor Force, 89, of Newberry, widow of George Clayton “Pete” Force, Jr. passed away on June 1, 2026 at White Oak Manor.

Born on November 10, 1936, in Newberry, she was the daughter of the late William Edgar Taylor, Sr. and Alma Rebecca Drummond Taylor.

June holds a special place in the history of Newberry as the first female police officer to serve on the City of Newberry Police Department. Her pioneering spirit opened doors for countless women who followed in her footsteps, and her dedication to her community earned her respect and admiration from all who knew her. She was a member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church and had volunteered as an Ambassador for the Newberry Opera House.

She is survived by a son, Clayton Alan (Christie) Force of Prosperity; a son-in-law, Jerry Vaughn of Newberry; grandchildren, Jay (Jen) Vaughn, Melissa (Michael) Busby, Rebecca Force, William Force and Kristin Chapman; great-grandchildren, Dakota (Sam) Edwards, Makyia Senn, Masyn Busby and Alysa Vaughn, and a special friend, Earl Dominick.

June was predeceased by her daughter, Lisa Vaughn and her siblings, Faye Burns Evans, William Edgar Taylor, Jr., Bobby Ray Taylor and Harold Lee Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 5, 2026, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Counts. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the funeral home chapel.
