Karen
Mundy
Feb 5, 1953 — Sep 7, 2026
Whitmire
Karen Elizabeth Sink Mundy passed into eternal life on Monday, September 7, 2026 at the age of 73.
Born in Union on February 5, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Chitwood Sink and Guynita McSwain Sink. Karen dedicated more than 20 years of her life to Whitten Center, where she served as a nurse. Her years there were a significant part of her life and a source of great pride, reflecting her dedication and compassion to those in her care. She often shared stories and memories from her years in nursing and spoke fondly of the people and experiences she encountered along the way.Karen really enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and gardening for many years until declining eyesight made those activities more difficult. She also treasured her beautiful collection of teapots. Her little Yorkie, Amy, who was by her side for the last two years of her life, held a special place in her heart. Family was an important part of Karen’s life, and she took pride in the family she and her late husband, Jerry, built together. She was a hardworking, determined, and resilient woman who faced many challenges throughout her life. She was also a devoted woman, and she will be missed by those who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Angela (Tony) Davenport, Stacy Mundy (Wayne), George Jerry “Jay” Mundy, III (Lisa), Sandie Mundy (Adam), and Justin (Megan) Mundy, son of Stacy whom Karen and her husband lovingly raised as their own; grandchildren, Rachel Davenport, Logan (Samantha) Davenport, Mason Mundy, Myles Mundy, and Georgia Mundy; great-grandchildren, Hailey Davenport, Ellie Mundy, and Jackson Mundy; brother, James (Janice) Sink.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dean Sink, her son, Thomas Mundy (April 2014), and her husband, George “Jerry” Mundy, Jr. (March 2026).
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at NHC Clinton and Presbyterian Home of Clinton for all of the care, compassion, and physical rehabilitation provided to Karen throughout the year.
The funeral service will be held in the chapel of McSwain-Evans Funeral Home in Newberry on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Newberry Memorial Gardens.
