Lillie Belle Herring Minick, 90, of Newberry, widow of John W. Minick, Sr., died Monday, October 19, 2009 at White Oak Manor-Newberry.

Born on September 7, 1919 in Colbert, GA, she was a daughter of the late Early and Lillie Porterfield Herring. Mrs. Minick retired from the Newberry College Bookstore as the Manager in 1982. Following her retirement she worked at Wal-Mart. She was elected an emeritus member of the National Association of College Bookstores in 1982, was an honorary member of the Newberry College Faculty Women’s Club and an honorary member of the Newberry College Women’s League. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where she was a member of WELCA, the Margaret Hawkins Circle and the New Horizons. Mrs. Minick was a charter member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 1547. She was elected Senior Regent of the Women of the Moose.

Surviving are a son, John W. (Linda) Minick, Jr. of Columbia; a daughter, Mary Jane M. Bedenbaugh of Columbia; grandchildren, Scott L. (Jeanette) Minick, Lisa (Eric) M. Dent, Stuart (Shannon) Bedenbaugh, Jody (Emily) Bedenbaugh, Mike (Laurie) Meadow and Tammy (Sonny) Bundrick; eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Minick was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Anne M. and Paul H. Meadow, a brother, Grady Herring and sisters, Annie Mae Evans and Mozelle Hix.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jason Schafer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Tri-County Hospice, 13795 C.R. Koon Highway, Newberry, SC 29108 or to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Building Fund, 4056 St. Luke’s Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127
