Lynn Waller

Lynn Andrew Waller, 79, of Prosperity, SC passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2024 at home following an extended illness.  Born December 8, 1944 in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Ellis Thomas Waller, Sr. and Helen Mayeaux Waller.  He was a 1967 graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  During his career he specialized in rotating equipment.  Lynn retired from Fluor Corporation, Greenville, SC in 2002 after having traveled all over the world with his work including the United States, Japan, Europe and Saudia Arabia.

Lynn was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church and while his health permitted participated in the Chancel choir with his deep bass voice, the JC Sunday School class where he served as a substitute teacher, the Men’s Wednesday morning Bible study, the M&M’s exercise group and many other activities.  

Lynn was a talented gunsmith and owner of Bear Creek Firearms where he enjoyed serving his customers fulfilling their hunting and target shooting needs, even producing parts to repair firearms when none were available.  For many years he was a member of the Newberry Pistol Club serving as an officer and received many awards for his target shooting skills. After closing his business in 2013, Lynn enjoyed traveling with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Martha B. Waller; two daughters, Rachel A.. Peterson of Woodstock, Ga and Jennifer W. Long of Holly Springs, Ga.; stepson, Ron (Lisa) Abrams, two grandchildren, Christopher Long and Samantha Long of Holly Springs, Ga.; 2 step-grandchildren, Elijah Abrams and Olivia Abrams of Prosperity; Sister-in-laws, Barbara B. Morris of Prosperity, SC and Lynn D. Waller of Liberty Hill, Texas; brother-in-law, Robert J. Kenney of Houston, Texas; three nephews, Dave (Lisa) Waller of Houston, Texas; Matt (Rachel) Waller of New Baden, Texas and Terry (Kathy) Morris of Prosperity; two nieces, Kendra (Will) Webb of Pflugerville, Texas and Tiffany (Stephen) Schoppe of Leander, Texas; and numerous cousins including a very special one Diane (Laverne) Gremillion of Paucheville, La.

Lynn was predeceased by his first wife, Karen S. Waller and his brother Ellis Thomas (Tommy) Waller, Jr.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00 am at Wightman United Methodist Church, 302 Main Street, Prosperity, SC with a time of visitation following in the Christian Life Center. Services will be conducted by Rev. Ben Barnett and Rev. Jimmy Counts.  Memorials may be made to Wightman UMC, PO Box 376, Prosperity, SC.

The family would like to extend thanks to Mike Mills, Bert Dixion, Todd Studer, Riley and Cecelia Odum, Lynda Counts, Leaonard May, the JC Sunday School Class, Brenda Riddle, Glenda’s Care,LLC., his MSA Home Health team (Jennifer, Marina, Ed and Dominique) and his MSA Hospice Team (Brenda and Tameka) for taking such excellent care of him and the family over the last several months of his life.  A special thanks to Vic Thacker for the beautiful hand-crafted urn.
