Madge M. Bowles

Dorothy Madge Mims Bowles, 73, of Newberry, widow of Jacob Horace Bowles, Jr., died Friday, September 17, 2010, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on April 13, 1937, in Newberry she was a daughter of Sybil Berry Mims Stubblefield and the late Floyd E. Mims. Mrs. Bowles was retired after 41 years from the Newberry County Memorial Hospital where she was a registered nurse. She was a graduate of the Furman University School of Nursing, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Greenville General Alumni Association.

Surviving are her mother and step-father, Sybil and Monty Stubblefield of Newberry; a son, J. Horace “Hal” (Rita) Bowles III of Silverstreet; brothers, Tommy Mims of Odenton, MD and Jimmy Mims of Abilene, TX; a granddaughter, Kelly (Dan) Purini of Columbia and two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Joshua Purini

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Counts. Memorials may be made to the Newberry County Animal Shelter, 11494 SC Highway 34, Newberry, SC 29108.
