Mamie West Longshore, 87, of Newberry, peacefully earned her wings on Friday, April 10, 2026, surrounded by family at National Healthcare of Clinton
Born in Newberry on March 25, 1939, she was the daughter of the Julian Augustus and Lelia Brooks West. She was the wife of the late James Alan “Jimmy” Longshore, Sr. They were married for 63 years.
Mamie was an active member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church. She was for many years a nursery Sunday School teacher, a member of the Esther Circle and sang in the choir.
She graduated from Hollywood High School and attended Newberry College. Mamie worked at the office of Newberry Family Practice for Drs. Underwood, Epting and Green. She retired from the office of Dr. John Green.
She loved preparing meals for family, gardening and keeping an immaculate yard. Mamie loved all holidays, but especially decorating her home and yard for Christmas. She was an avid Lady Gamecock basketball fan. She enjoyed attending events for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and had a wonderful time on vacations and trips with her family.
Family was the most important thing to Mamie. She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie L. Wilson; two sons, J. Alan Longshore, Jr. and David W. Longshore (Shannon). She is also survived by grandchildren, Emily Riber (Canton), Ashton Zarnowski (Nick), Kenley Longshore and Bryson Longshore and great-grandchildren, Wesley and Leila Riber and Waylon and Charlie Zarnowski. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Shirley Longshore and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by siblings, Jake West, Julette Leavell, Faye Powell, Eleanor Reed and Nell Gantt. She was the last living sibling.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, April 13, 2026, at Smyrna Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Jim Wilkerson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Longshore and will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to Smyrna Presbyterian Church, 32 Smyrna Road, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the charity of one's choice.
Active pallbearers will be Bryson Longshore, Terry Longshore, Doc Longshore, Ken West, Marvin Reed, Neel Boozer, Eddie Wilson and Ricky Richardson.
The family wishes to thank the staff of C-Wing at NHC of Clinton for their loving and compassionate care.
