Margaret Hawkins Cromer, 86, of Pomaria, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
She was born on February 5, 1940, in Silverstreet, to the late Irvy E. and Lillie Mae Boland Hawkins. She retired from the Ophthalmologist Office of Dr. Robert E. Livingston III, where she enjoyed her many years working in the Glasses Department.
Margaret was known by all who loved her as a a gentle, soft-spoken woman whose kindness touched everyone she met. She had a servant’s heart. A faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School and served on many committees, including the Worship Committee for many years and lovingly baked the communion bread, a ministry that reflected her generous spirit and dedication to worship. Through this simple but meaningful act, she touched the lives of many in her congregation. She also attended Cross Point Church the past few years.
She had a special love of gardening and could often be found tending to her flowers, watching hummingbirds flutter around their yard, or quietly enjoying the beauty of nature. She enjoyed feeding and watching the red birds that visited her yard, a small daily ritual that brought her peace and joy. Her home was filled with warmth, the smell of home-cooked meals, jars of vegetables she had carefully canned, and the enjoyment of things she had sewn or knitted with her own hands. She had a fondness for collecting angels, which reflected her own quiet and caring nature. To her family, she truly was an angel here on Earth.
More than anything, she cherished her family. Spending time with her husband, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her the greatest happiness. She took pride in raising her sons in the simple country way of life, teaching them the value of hard work, faith, and caring for others. With patience and a sweet, kind spirit, she guided them as they grew, always leading by example and surrounding them with love and encouragement. Her heart belonged to her two granddaughters. She loved them deeply and treasured every moment spent with them. Being their grandma was one of her proudest and happiest roles, and she delighted in watching them grow into the young women they are today. She also cherished her time spent with her great-grandchildren. Margaret's love, patience, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Margaret is predeceased by her husband of 69 years, David Lever Cromer. She is survived by her sons, Dale (Sharon) Cromer and Rodney Cromer both of Pomaria; granddaughters, Kayla (Corey) Bishop of Prosperity and Rebecca (Richard) Cates of Pomaria; great-grandchildren, Skylar Grace and Remy Kate Bishop and Elliott Dale and Harley Rae Cates.
She is survived by her sister Faye Hartman of Prosperity. She was predeceased by her sister Janice Crowell, and her brothers Lewis Hawkins and Reverend Julian Hawkins.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery by the Reverend Jeff O’Dell. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Reese Building.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Cresent Hospice.
