Marion E. Pitts, 82, of Newberry, died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Hospice House of Greenwood.

Born on August 21, 1926 in Newberry, he was a son of the late Hugh Forrest and Helen Williams Pitts. Mr. Pitts was a retired logger. He served in World War II in the Navy and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served on many committees.

Surviving are his wife, Cornelia Mills Pitts; a daughter, Ginger Pitts Weir and her husband, Jimmy Weir of Newberry; a son, Hugh Anthony “Tony” Pitts and his wife, Nancy A. Pitts of Newberry; sisters, Gloria Pitts Brehmer of Kinards, Joyce Pitts Bouknight and her husband, Le Grande Bouknight of Newberry; grandchildren, Laurel Weir, Jamie Weir, Zachary Pitts and Joshua Pitts. Mr. Pitts was predeceased by a son, Marion E. Pitts, Jr., brothers, Vernon Pitts and Jimmy Pitts and sisters, Frances Pitts Martin and Lila Pitts Martin and a brother-in-law, Henry Brehmer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Hugh Bickley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the residence where they will receive. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1160 Trinity Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
