Martha Bryan Derrick of Newberry, died Thursday, October 14, 2021, at White Oak Manor.

A lifelong resident of Newberry County, she was the widow of John F. Derrick and the daughter of the late Ralph and Erin Wicker Bryan.

“Mot” as she was affectionately known retired from Newberry Academy after thirty two years of devoted service as Director of Kindergarten.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.

Active in her community Mot served as a volunteer and Ambassador Coordinator at the Newberry Opera House since the rededication in 1998. She was a member of the Newberry County Historical and Museum Society where she was secretary and board member for many years. She was a member of the Dutch Fork Chapter of the S.C. Genealogical Society and S.C. Historical Society.

Mot is survived by her beloved family, her son, Bryan Derrick and granddaughters, Briley and Erin. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sandra Bryan and nieces Sandy Rinehart and Lena Scruggs and their families. She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Bryan.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Matthew Titus. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:30 – 6:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Newberry Opera House, 1201 McKibben Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or The Newberry Museum, 1300 Friend Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
