Martha H. Smith, 77, of Newberry, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Lexington Medical Center.
She was born on February 12, 1948, to the late Samuel Y. and Eloise Derrick Hunter in the Stoney Hill Community of Newberry.
Martha attended Newberry County Schools and graduated from Mid Carolina High School in 1967. She later continued her education by obtaining a degree in business from Piedmont Technical College in 2010.
She was a full-time wife and homemaker for many years before she returned to work in retail where she worked for 20 years with B.C. Moore’s Department Store. She was member of St. Philip Lutheran Church.
Martha was married to her husband, Billy Smith for 56 years until his death on August 8, 2022.
She is survived by daughters, Renee Fulmer (Bobby Bannister, Jr.) of Little Mountain and Cheryl (Douglas) Mills of Prosperity; grandsons, Timmy (Samantha) Fulmer and Seth Fulmer (Abby Stutts); a great-grandson, Tennessee Fulmer; a sister, Sara (Joe) Metts of Lexington; a brother, Sammy (Cheryl) Hunter of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Mary Jean (Dewey “Bo”) McCarson and Janice Smith both of Prosperity; a brother-in-law, Earl (Wanda) Smith of Newberry; nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends, Tina and Brian Getz, Linda Halfacre and Marianne Carlisle.
Martha was predeceased in addition to her husband by a granddaughter, Tristan Nicole Fulmer, a sister, Lois (Shirley) Bedenbaugh, sisters-in-law, Reba Nell (Burl) Rollins, Fannie Mae (Billy) Walton, Gertice (Berley, Sr.), Rister, Iona (Bennett) Frick, Rachel (Raymond) Richardson and brothers-in-law, George (Bobbie Jewel) Smith, Leroy (Hilda) Smith and Johnny Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, January 30, 2026, at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Active pallbearers will be Will Larache, Adam Smith, Brian Getz, Jacob Nelson, Michael Turner and Brady Livingston.
