Mary Jo Martz Racine, 88, of Prosperity, widow of Gifford Raymond Racine, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on May 1, 1936, in Bluemont, VA, she was a daughter of the late Alfred Hummer and Martha Martz Procella.  She worked for Dr. Anderson Dental Practice in Chapin as the office manager.  She also operated the Wooden Nickel Restaurant in Columbia for several years.  Mrs. Racine was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was involved with the Ladies Group.

She is survived by sons, Raymond Joseph Racine of Prosperity; a daughter, Darlene Rabine of Monroe, GA; sisters, Carol May of Vienna, WV and Barbara Peffer of Berryville, VA; a brother, Steve (Alice) Hummer of Bluemont, VA; grandchildren, Michael (Mistie) Racine, Ryan (Priscilla) Racine, Nicholas (Cassidy) Racine, Adam Lingefelt and Joey (Rebekah) Racine; great-grandchildren, Nolan Racine, Brody Brackett, Emma Racine, Weston Racine, Bentlee Racine, Isabella Racine, Waylon Racine, Caleb Racine and Bonnie Racine and a sister-in-law, Eloise Webster of Smyrna, DE.

Mrs. Racine was predeceased by a son, James Howard Racine, her step-mother, Frances Hummer and step-father, Ray Procella.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Heath Mauldin.   Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the service.  

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 2503 Bethel Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.

​Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
