McHardy "Mac" Way

McHardy Mower “Mac” Way, 76, of Newberry, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at White Oak Manor.

Born on July 2, 1949, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Powell E. Way, Jr. and Elizabeth Mower Way. Mac retired from the Newberry Housing Authority and was a member of College Street Church where he had been a choir member. He was a member of the Newberry Gun Club where he actively participated and won numerous awards and trophies. His happiest times, however, were when he shared his love for hunting and fishing. Hunting deer, quail and ducks were his primary hunting quest.

Mac is survived by sons, McHardy “Buddy” Way, Jeremy Bouknight and Jason Maroney; daughters, Leanne Harrison and Jessica Bullard; a brother, Powell Way; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Way; eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a niece, Amy Nichols; a nephew, Brett Moore; a dear and close friend, Wilson Bowles and good friends and caregivers, Denise Pitts and Sylvia Bouknight.

He was predeceased by a nephew, Scott Moore.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 23, 2025 at College Street Church by Rev. Jeff Barlow. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
