Miguel Sanchez Benitez, 85, of Newberry, passed away at his home on April 10, 2026. Born on September 29, 1940, in Chapultepec, Guerrero, Mexico, he was the son of the late Francisco Sanchez and Dolores Benitez.

Mr. Sanchez was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. He dedicated much of his life to working his land, caring for his fields, and raising cattle, a life that reflected his strong work ethic and devotion to providing for his family. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Juana Popoca. Those left to cherish his memory include his seven daughters: Maria Felix Sanchez; Virginia Sanchez (Adrian Teran); Maria Conception Sanchez (Alfonso Luviano); Adelaida Luviano (Heriberto Luviano); Maria Castro, widow of the late Eusebio Castro; Angela Sanchez (Galileo Gutierrez); and Julia Sanchez (Servando Estrada); and his two sons, Cristobal Sanchez (Maria Armenta) and Jorge Sanchez (Meyvis Gomez). He is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and friends who will dearly miss him.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Sanchez will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 1:00 pm at St. Mark's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens. He will be taken to the home on Friday at 7:00 pm, where he will remain until Saturday at 12:00 pm.
