Mildred Chapman "Mickey" Wicker

Mildred “Mickey” Chapman Wicker, 87, of Pomaria, died Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Agape Hospice Care House of Lexington.

Born on August 2, 1935, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Bernelle and Anna Ruff Chapman.  She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Pomaria.  She had served on the church council, sang in the choir, was involved with WELCA, Sunday School treasurer and participated in many other church organizations during her life.

Mrs. Wicker retired from BellSouth and Palmetto State Life Insurance Company.

She loved her family and friends and found great pleasure in cooking for large crowds.  She enjoyed outings and playing cards especially with her bridge club.  Sports brought her great delight, most importantly basketball and her USC Lady Gamecocks.

Mrs. Wicker is survived by her husband of 68 years, Aubey L. Wicker; a sister, Linda Chapman (Ellis) Dowd of Prosperity; her children, Steve (Helen) Wicker and Elaine (Chris) Smith all of Pomaria; her grandchildren, Daniel (Amy) Wicker, Amy (Chris) Milstead, Kyle (Brittany) Smith, Nathan (Lindsay) Wicker, Jonathan (Nikki) Smith; great-grandchildren, Emma Wicker, Julianne Wicker, Brendan Wicker, Abbie Wicker, Maddox Wicker, Millie Wicker, Anna Marie Milstead, Christy Milstead, Landon Milstead, Katelyn Smith, Natalie Smith, Ashlynn Smith and Levi Smith and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 17, 2023, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church by the Rev. Mike Shackleford.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church General Fund, PO Box 170, Pomaria, SC 29126.

Active pallbearers will be Daniel Wicker, Nathan Wicker, Kyle Smith, Jonathan Smith, Chris Milstead and Donald Dowd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike and June Ruff, Andy and Willie Lee Morris, Russell and Francelle Kibler, members of WELCA, and the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care of Newberry.

The family would like to thank her many caregivers especially Mike and June Ruff, Andy and Willie Lee Morris, Jenny Dowd, St. Matthew Church members, the staffs of Fresenius Kidney Care of Newberry, Lexington Medical Center and Agape Hospice Care of Lexington.
