Peggy Jean Killian

Peggy Jean Boozer Killian, 84, of Prosperity, widow of O. Alonzo Killian, died Monday, May 2, 2022, at her residence.

Born on October 15, 1937, in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Sparta Mae Bowers Boozer.  Mrs. Killian was a graduate of Prosperity High School and attended Columbia Commercial College.  She had worked at Prosperity Elementary as a lunchroom worker and as an assistant librarian and later retired from Newberry County Memorial Hospital.  She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Essie Hawkins Circle, the G.A.L.S. Group and had been a past superintendent of the Sunday School. In 2017 she received an Honorary Life Member award from the Women of the Church at St. Luke’s Lutheran. 

Mrs. Killian was a lifetime member of the VFW Chapter 6740 and had served as a Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary on both the local and regional level. She was a member of the Smilin Swingers.

She is survived by daughters, Debra (Bob) Beard and Linda (Dale) Bratton both of Newberry and Lisa (Jeffrey) Lever of Prosperity; a son-in-law, Jack Livingston of Newberry; brothers, Jimmy (Diane) Boozer of Evans, GA and Rudy (Ruth) Boozer of Prosperity; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Sue Livingston and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, May 5, 2022, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jason Schafer.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.  Memorials may be given toward funeral expenses at 1724 Main Street, Newberry, SC 29108 (https://www.mcswain-evans.com/resources/make-a-payment) or to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4056 St. Luke’s Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.
