Phillip Ray Cannon, 62, of Newberry, widower of Claire Crossland Cannon, died Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Palmetto Health Baptist.

Born on October 3, 1955, in Columbia, he was a son of the late William Curtis Cannon and Hazel Millwood Cannon Allen. He was a carpenter and attended West End Baptist Church.

Mr. Cannon is survived by a step-son, Max Hutchinson of Newberry; sisters, Jan (Warren) Trammell and Ann (Gary) Guy both of Newberry and Tammy (Dwight) Shealy of Prosperity; mother-in-law, Y-Genia Crossland; sisters-in-law, Sally Cockrell, Linda Counts and Glenda Kinard; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ken Cannon.

Funeral services will held at 3:00 pm Friday, September 7, 2018, at West End Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Thompson. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family ask that everyone wear casual attire for his service. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. The family will be at 2118 Pine Hill Circle, Newberry. Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church Food Pantry, 620 Main Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Scott Cockrelll, Gary Guy, Daniel Duncan, Rusty Shealy, Dwight Shealy and Bub Cockrell.
