Rachel Wise Wicker, 97, of Newberry, widow of Herman Graham Wicker, died Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at White Oak Manor.

Born on April 22, 1926 in Chapin, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Harvey and Eva Shealy Wise. She was the last surviving member of the Bush River High School Class of 1942. Mrs. Wicker retired from Greenwood Mills, Joanna Plant after 45 years of service. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church where she began attending at the age of 3. She was a former member of the Luther League, a Sunday School teacher, Miriam Circle leader, choir member, lay reader, Life Member of the Southern Lutheran Seminary Auxiliary, and a life member of the South Carolina Women of the E.L.C.A. Mrs. Wicker enjoyed sewing and crocheting for her family. She made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. For many years, after her retirement, Mrs. Wicker took care of children in her home. Each Sunday, she enjoyed cooking Sunday dinner for her family and friends that attended church that day.

She is survived by daughters, Edith (David) Henderson of Greer and Beth (Kenny) Inman of Pomaria; sons, Grady (Ann) Wicker, Kenneth (Deborah) Wicker, and Dale (Joyce) Wicker all of Newberry; sisters, Dannette (Earl) Smith and Sue (Ernie) Counts both of Kinards; a brother, Carroll (Helen) Wise of Newberry; 14 grandchildren, Kyle Henderson, Keri Dover, Kaci Cotter, Jeff Wicker, Jennifer Hix, Denise Evans, Dawn Sallings, Deidra Esakov, Ryan Wicker, Austin Wicker, Rachel Wicker, Casey Sligh, Katie Inman, and Krista Twitty; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sisters, Vermelle McDowell and Mildred Baker.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 12, 2023 at St. James Lutheran Church by the Rev. Rodney Gunter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church sanctuary. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 228 Jalapa Road, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Active pall bearers will be Jeff Wicker, Ryan Wicker, Austin Wicker, Steven Dover, Clay Sallings, and Frank Twitty.
