Ronald T. Hope, 80, of Pomaria, SC peacefully passed away on April 18, 2023 at his favorite place to be – home.
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend was son of the late Francis and Dorothy Bingham Hope. He is survived by his wife, Elsa, and daughters with his first wife Cheryl - Christine (Robert) Sala and Kimberly (Larry) Sisk, and grandson, Steven Sisk. He is also survived by son Larry (Kim) Allen, brought to him by his marriage to Elsa, and grandchildren Nathan, David, Stephanie Antonaros, Brandon, Keith, Valerie, and Mark and great grandchildren, June, Michael, Sophia, Joey, and Marilyn. Surviving nieces and nephew are Patricia, Beatrix, and Gerd. He is predeceased by his brother, Francis “Sonny” M. Hope, Jr.
His father served in the Army and as a result Ron attended many schools in stateside, Germany, and Japan, ending his education in Dreher High School. After his schooling at Dreher, he followed his father’s footsteps and joined the United States Army, which included service in Viet Nam. Upon his retirement from the Army, he worked at the McEntire Joint National Guard Base until his second retirement in 2003.
Ron will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He had a generous spirit and easily shared his time in ministry as an active member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was a long-time member of Pomaria’s Ruritans. He supported the Pomaria Community Food Bank, and for several years gave his time and energy to overseeing and completing the renovation of the Hope Rosenwald School. As a result of Ron’s efforts, Pomaria is represented at the African American Cultural Center, part of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C..
In lieu of a separate visitation, condolences with the family may be offered in the sanctuary from 12:30 - 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church, 622 Hope Station Rd, Pomaria, SC. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary with Reverend Michael Watson officiating.
Pallbearers will be Neil Huffstetler, Johnny Riddle, Steven Sisk, David Allen, Brandon Allen, Keith Allen and Nathan Allen
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray and Marcelle Boland, Vernon and Shirley Counts, Kenny Stuck, Amanda Huffstetler, Jay and Joy Hope
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in memory of Ron to St. John Lutheran Church, POB 198, Pomaria. The family is especially grateful to Dr. Carroll Pinner, his staff and the ICU staff of Parkridge, and Amedysis Hospice, Lexington for their care and assistance.
