Rubye Shealy Glymph

Rubye Shealy Glymph, 95, of Pomaria, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, at her home

Mama went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, Friday afternoon December 1. We all know there is a lot of celebrating in Heaven today.

"Miss Rubye" was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family, her nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends in her church and community. She was a gifted artist who enjoyed painting, drawing and making crafts. She was well known for painting
the Nativity scene for Pomaria Lutheran Church that is displayed each Christmas.

Her family would affectionately call her the "Pomaria Church Lady" because she loved her church and church family dearly. She helped make more than 700 quilts tops as part of a church-sponsored missions program to provide comfort to people in underprivileged countries. Many people are being kept warm today in one of these beautiful handcrafted quilts.

Rubye also enjoyed baking her delicious signature pound cakes for friends and family. Many birthdays and special occasions were celebrated with one of her many culinary delights. She loved making Christmas ornaments and giving them away. She especially enjoyed seeing the smiles on the faces of those who received them. There are many people -- family, friends and even strangers -- who are hanging her beautiful beaded ornaments on their Christmas trees this holiday season.

She worked for the U.S. Postal Service as the Assistant Postmaster -- and then Postmaster -- of the Peak community for more than 25 years.

Wife of the late Aubrey Ernest Glymph, she is survived by her children: Deborah G. Wicker (Larry), Sandra G. Laney (Claude), Aubrey Barry Glymph, Melynda G. Ebersole (Erik), Donald Gregg Glymph (Renda) and pre-deceased  by her infant son Ronald Scott Glymph. Grandchildren include Kris Thomas Wicker (Kristen), Emily G. Ott (Ryan), Grace Elizabeth Glymph and James Hampton Glymph. Great-grandchildren include Cullen Thomas Wicker, Kendall Catherine Wicker and Coleman David Wicker.

Born in her family home on March 20, 1928, in Pomaria, SC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Marion Shealy and Alice Epting Shealy. She was the 10th of 11 children. Siblings include the late Ernest Olin Shealy, Roy Palmer Shealy, Tallye Hugh Shealy, Francis Louise Shealy Corbet, Clarence Grady Shealy, Joseph Marion Shealy, Jr., Charles Ray Shealy, Mable Shealy Cromer. She is survived by sisters Dorothy Shealy Boyd and Mary Evelyn Shealy Doolittle.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Pomaria Lutheran Church by the Rev. Michele Fischer. Burial will follow in Pomaria Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to Pomaria Lutheran Church, PO Box 246, Pomaria, SC 29126.

The Glymph Family would like to give special thanks to the Hospice Team and special caregiver and friend Tessie Mendenhall. Memorials can be made to Pomaria Lutheran Church.
