Sandra Metts

Sandra Cannon Metts, 80, of Little Mountian, died Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on August 4, 1943 in Little Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Curtis and Eula Bundrick Cannon. Mrs. Metts was a 1961 graduate of Chapin High School. She retired from Lexington-Richland School District 5, where she worked at Chapin Middle School for many years. She was a life-long member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she was a former Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She enjoyed working with her flowers and cooking. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alfred Douglas Metts; daughters, Sonya (David) Shealy and Amy (Kelvin) Chapman both of Little Mountain; a son, Mitchell (Jennifer) Metts of Irmo; a sister, Betty Shirley of Chapin; a brother, Derrill Cannon of Chapin; grandchildren, Chase (Jessica) Shealy, Chance (Summer) Shealy, Cannon (Will) Dominick, Mikayla (John Steven) Trammell, Marshall Elliott, Jessica Metts, Adam Metts, Victoria (McKenzie) Knight, and Hannah Chapman; great-grandchildren, Azalea, Braelyn, Hadley, Mackenzie, Emma Grace, and Brooks; and her beloved dog, Pedro.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 20, 2024 at St. Peter Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Tholstrup. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home in Newberry. The family will be at the home of Sonya and David Shealy. Memorials may be made to the Little Mountain Fire-Rescue, 219 North Boundary Street, Little Mountain, SC 29075 or to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 900 Dreher Island Road, Chapin, SC 29036.

Active pall bearers will be her grandchildren, Chase Shealy, Chance Shealy, Adam Metts, Marshall Elliott, Jessica Metts, Mikayla Trammell and Cannon Dominick.

Honorary pall bearers will be Deborah and Phil Ruff, Donald Counts, and members of the Chapin High School Class of 1961.

The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff of Lovelace Family Medicine and Newberry County Memorial Hospital for their care.
