Mrs. Sara Franklin Reames, 166 Old Whitmire Highway in Newberry, widow of the late David Gordon Reames, died May 12, 2010, at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home. She was born in Newberry County and was the daughter of the late Lona Mae Mills Franklin and the late Jacob Caldwell Franklin. She was 90 years old.

Sara was a homemaker for many years but later worked at Newberry High School as well as at White Oak Manor, where she was Activity Director for sixteen years. After retiring from there, she worked as Receptionist at the Newberry County Council on Aging for over four years before she retired again. She was a life-long member of Beth-Eden Lutheran Church and was active in various activities of the church over the years. She taught Sunday School and Bible School, was President and later Secretary of the Women of the Church/WELCA, was a choir member, and was Sunday School organist, and served on the Altar Guild. In recognition of her years of service, Sara was made a Life Member of the Lutheran Southern Seminary Auxiliary in August 2001.

Surviving her are her one son, Dr. David C. Reames, of Kingsport, Tennessee and his wife Laura Lake Reames, her granddaughters, Allison Reames of North Hollywood, California, and Whitney Reames Nussman (and husband Jarred) of Blountville, Tennessee, and one great grandson, Brady Nussman, also of Blountville, Tennessee.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010, at 3:00 PM at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted in the Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Rodney Gunter following the visitation at 4:00 PM. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Newberry County Council on Aging, 1300 Hunt Street, Newberry, SC, 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Ray Franklin, Roy Franklin, Russell Franklin, George Franklin, Scott Riser, DuRant Reames, Travis Riser and Kenneth Lake

Honorary pallbearers will be Beth Eden Lutheran Church Council Members.
