Steven “Steve” Douglas Culbertson, 67, of Newberry, died Wednesday, July 1, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Born on October 20, 1958, in Norton, VA, he was the devoted son of Donald Culbertson and the late Delores Allen Culbertson. Steve retired from Blanchard Machinery and was a member of Restoration Outreach Church where he was an Elder.
He was an outdoorsman who was an avid hunter and enjoyed gardening. He was a master at most mechanical projects.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who cherished every opportunity to be together as a family. His life set an example for all who knew him as he was also a devoted Christian who lived his life for the Lord.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ava Gardner Culbertson; his father, Don Culbertson of Wise, VA; sons, Jason (Allison) Culbertson of Simpsonville, Chad (Lindsay) Culbertson of Pomaria and Blake (Nicole) Culbertson of Little Mountain; a sister, Noelle (Stan) Fleming of Wise, VA; grandchildren, Skyler (Josie) Culbertson, Kylie Culbertson, Ethan Culbertson, Seth Culbertson, Jaxson Culbertson, Tinsley Culbertson and Waylon Culbertson and a great-granddaughter, Scarlett Culbertson and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Winston Yoder and Pastor Xavier Baez. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Restoration Outreach Church Building Fund, PO Box 1037, Newberry, SC 29108 or online at www.rocnewberry.org.
Active pallbearers will be Lucas Pullen, Mike Clayton, Chad Hendrix, Buddy Lester, Trevor Colborn and Matt Wooten.
