Sylvia Adams

Sylvia Woodard Adams, 79, of Newberry, died Thursday, October 15, 2015, at White Oak Manor.

She was a native of Edgefield County. She was a true pioneer for women in radio, having worked as one of the first female DJ’s at WFNL and later she worked at WBBQ. Additionally, she worked as a registered nurse for many years. Mrs. Adams was an avid rock collector, enjoyed reading and was a published author.

Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband of 30 years, Dick Adams; sons, Milton R. Smith, Jr. of Clarks Hill and Russell Adams of Newberry; a daughter, Jamie (Brian) Harvey of Florence; grandchildren, Addison Harvey and Jennifer Cloy and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Posey Funeral Home Chapel in North Augusta. A private family burial will follow in Republican Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
