The Reverend Dr. Timothy (Tim) Erskine, retired Presbyterian Minister passed away 4 March 2026 at the age of 83 surrounded by his family. Known by many for his love, affection, and gratitude, Tim was a person of few honors refusing to be the center of achievements. His goal was to simply live to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, serve and love others. For him, Ministry was living life with wide open arms and a caring heart. His life reflected the joy and freedom of Christ Jesus.

Tim arrived on planet Earth January 15, 1943 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He graduated from Bearden Highschool lettering in football and enjoying Young Life. He entered Engineering at Tennessee Tech University, in Cookeville, Tennessee. During this time, he meets one of God’s greatest blessings in his life, his wife Cathy of 62 years. With a family underway, he enters the University of Tennessee receiving a BS degree in Management Service in 1970, later receiving his MBA in 1980. During this time, he worked at Robertshaw Controls Company and later with the Tennessee Valley Authority. In 1986, with the help of a dear friend, Tim formed Erskine and Company developing shopping centers around Atlanta.

While returning home one Wednesday evening from a business meeting, the Lord called Tim to be a Minister. The voice is so real, he found himself enrolled and attending classes at Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, SC on the following Tuesday. Moving forward in faith, he earned both a Master of Divinity and Doctorate of Ministry degree from Erskine.

After receiving his degrees, Tim was ordained and installed as Senior Pastor at the Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church in Newberry, SC. From there he moved to Greenwood, SC, He returned to the PCUSA denomination to serve in Marietta, GA and then on to Vicksburg, MS. After retirement he returned to Newberry, SC serving a short time in the Aveleigh Presbyterian Church.

Tim’s life reflected the reality of God’s Spirit involving wisdom that “is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” (James 3)

Tim was born the son of Bayard and Cornelia Erskine. He is survived by his wife Cathy (Broome), three sons: Tim Jr. (Loree), children Candace (Daniel) and Courtney; Paul (Amy), children John (Haley) and Will; and Andy (Becky), children Ruby and Annabelle. He is survived by his sister Carole Farnham in Ashville, NC.

During Tim’s journey, he always reminded us of how excited he is to be called back home for his assignment here is now complete…. “back to the home office to meet with the Main Man my Lord and Savior. What a wonderful life with Cathy and family. God is so good when we stay in His will and die to self. Love all you brothers and sisters.” Tim

A celebration of life for Tim will be held at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church. The time and date will be announced soon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Newberry County Young Life and Aveleigh Presbyterian Church.
