Thomas W. Workman, 93, of Newberry, died Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Emerald Gardens in Greenwood.

 

Born on November 20, 1928 in Newberry, he was a son of the late Pinkney Claire and Margaret Young Workman.

 

Mr. Workman was a graduate of Bush River High School and a member of St. James Lutheran Church. He served in the United States Air Force Veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Newberry County School District. Mr. Workman was a retired charter member of the Bush River Fire Department. He loved all sports and especially enjoyed watching the Clemson Tigers and the Atlanta Braves. He had hoped to live to see the Braves win another World Series, which they did this past year.

 

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Edith Epting Workman; a son, Tommy (Alfreda) Workman of Newberry; a sister, Ann (Earl) Penn of Cayce; grandchildren, Holly (Corey) Brazell of Wendell, NC, Kayla (David) Escobar of Lewisville, TX, Matthew Workman of Newberry, Amanda (Jeff) Mazza of Prosperity, and Brittany (Brad) Rikard of Newberry; great-grandchildren, Kaylen Fulcher, Wyatt, Jaxon, and Andee Mazza, and Braxton and Braedy Rikard; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son and daughter-in-law, Donny and Nanette Workman and a number of brothers and sisters.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 20, 2022 at St. James Lutheran Church by the Rev. Rodney Gunter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 228 Jalapa Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

 

Active pallbearers will be Bob Ringer, Charlie Ringer, Dick Workman, Dan Epting, Tim Epting, Mike Penn, Sammy Lyles, and Rut Workman.

 

Those attending are asked to be mindful of the Covid-19 guidelines.
