IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia
Blankenbecklor
May 29, 1943 – December 27, 2025
Virginia R. Blankenbecklor, (82) widow of Richard G. Blankenbecklor, of Moncks Corner, SC, died on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home in Newberry, South Carolina, after a valiant battle with cancer.
She was born May 29, 1943, at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late Priscilla Jussley Robertson and Thomas B. Robertson, Sr., lovingly known as Gam and Big Daddy. She grew up in Mt. Pleasant, SC, living a wonderful childhood with her parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, and cousins on the banks of the Cooper River. Seafood, sunshine, swimming, dolphin watching, and boat riding were the norm. She was a graduate of General William Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant, SC. She later attended the University of South Carolina where she studied Business. She retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation after a wonderful career serving others.
Upon her retirement, she spent time in the summers visiting Gam and Big Daddy in Saluda, NC., visiting friends and camping across the state, and spending time supporting her grandchildren and special nieces and nephews. She was a previous member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Mt. Pleasant, SC. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who had a way of making others feel welcomed and valued, whether through a thoughtful conversation, a warm smile, or simple acts of generosity. Her life was marked by compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved.
She is survived by two children: Virginia Kinard Catoe (Marcos), Lugoff, SC, and George Clyde Kinard Jr., (Lisa), Newberry, SC. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Zachary Gunnar (Quiomary) Catoe, Zane Catoe, George William Kinard (Monica), Rebecca Kinard (Travis), and Anna Louise Robertson. Other survivors include a sister, Priscilla Robertson Scoggin; brother, Thomas Butler Robertson, Jr. (Susan); dear cousin, Karen Day; and college roommate, Margaret Combs. Special friends from her time living in Prosperity are Tina Bowers (George), Butch and Rae Kinard, Pauline Harmon, Christy Jones, Cathey and David Force, and Larry DiBiase, who visited her while she was living in Springfield Place.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to Nakita Agnew and a special corp of nursing staff who cared for her while she resided at Springfield Place; the office, nursing, and therapy staff at J. F. Hawkins who has cared and prayed for her since July; Dr. Spencer Lovelace, who cared for her in her final months; the angelic staff and team at Three Oaks Hospice, especially Kierra Jones, her CNA, who cared for her daily, and Sheriff Lee Foster for being a constant source of advice, wisdom, and support.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Fostering Foster Animal Rescue in Camden, SC, (via fosteringfoster.com) or Night to Shine, Kershaw County, SC. (NCLO, 411 Highway 601, Lugoff, SC 29078).
