Virginia Starnes

Virginia Elizabeth Starnes, 95, of Newberry, widow of Truesdale Lee Starnes, died Thursday, December 3, 2009, at her residence.

Born on September 29, 1914, in Proctor, NC, she was a daughter of the late Orvalle and Carrie Farley Welch. Mrs. Starnes was retired from First Union Bank and was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church.

Surviving is her sons, Marion Bruce Knight of Camby, OR; a daughter, Judy Knight Summer of Newberry; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Sherrill L. Welch, Hardy H. Welch, Berlin Welch and Warren B. Welch and a sister, Hattie M. Cash.

Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Van Wyck United Methodist Church Cemetery in Van Wyck, SC. Memorials may be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church, 300 Glenn Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
