Wayne Garland Blount, 83, of Pomaria, died peacefully Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Prisma Health Baptist surrounded by his family.

Born on April 5, 1943, in Newberry, he was the son of the late Powell Garland and Lillie Mae Cromer Blount. Wayne was a graduate of Mid Carolia High School and was an Army veteran. He had worked for West Electric and the South Carolina Prison System. He was a lifelong member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. He had served on the Newberry Rescue Squad and was a founding member of the Consolidated Fire Department where he had served as both the Assistant and Chief and at the time of his death was an honorary member of the department.

Wayne was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. Neighbors often called upon him for his assistance with electrical issues, and he was known for never charging.

He loved deer hunting, fishing, gardening, farming and woodworking. He most importantly cherished his time with family.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Dolly Spicer Blount; daughters, Kimberly Blount (Todd) Griffith of Pomaria and Amy Blount (Keith) Hendrix of Newberry; a sister, Virginia Ann Blount (Douglas) Bedenbaugh of St. Paul, NC; grandchildren, Julia “Lucy” (Matt) Easterlin, Timothy (Eric) Griffith and Katherine Griffith; a great-grandson, Asher Easterlin, niece, Amber (Mark) Brantley; two great-nieces, a great-nephew and cousins reared in the home with him, Ruby Cook, Marion Banks and Heyward Banks. He was predeceased by a cousin, Mary Nell Hunt.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, July 6, 2026, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church by the Rev. Bobby Morris. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parish hall.

Honorary pallbearers will be all fireman serving in Newberry County.

Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation (link), the Arthritis Foundation (link), the Shriner’s Hospital (link) or Consolidated Fire Department.
