Robert Wayne Turner, 65, of Newberry, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Providence Hospital.

Born on November 20, 1944, in Newberry, he was a son of the late George Edward “Skinny” Turner and Ester Hilley Long. He was the owner of Turner Towing for 40 years and was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. He was an Army veteran of the 82 nd Airborne stationed at Ft. Bragg.

Surviving are his wife, Julia Turner; a son, Larry Wayne Turner of Prosperity; sister, Linda Turner of Fayetteville, NC, step-sister, Mary Bickley of Newberry; best friend, Billy Ackerman; many nieces and nephews and special cats, Trouble, Precious, Fluff Fluff and Pot Gut

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2010, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Jason Schafer and Rev. Randall Derrick. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Macedonia Lutheran Church, 49 Macdonia Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127 or St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4056 St. Luke’s Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.
