William "Billy" George

William Caldwell “Billy” George, 81, of Prosperity, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at White Oak Manor. 

Born on June 30, 1943, in Prosperity, he was a son of the late Leland Ross and Frances Ruff George. He was a graduate of Mid Carolina High School and Newberry College. He retired after 28 years from the South Carolina Department of Transportation as the Personnel Director. Mr. George was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and had been a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. He had served in the South Carolina National Guard. 

Mr. George had a great passion for managing his farm and his cows. He likewise found great pleasure in fishing, shrimping, woodworking, participation in and watching sports and playing golf with his friends. He found great joy in passing down his barbecue tricks to the younger generation. 

He is survived by his wife, Kathry “Kay” Dawkins George; a son, John Ross (Tricia Nichols) George of Apex, NC; a daughter, Jennifer (Calvin) Morris of Prosperity; grandchildren, Katie Ruth Morris, Jessica Layne Morris (Keenan Boland), Timothy John Nichols and Olivia Rose Nichols and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Mould and a brother, Ross George, Jr. 

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jane Mitcham The family will receive friends following the service.  

The family suggests that memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, PO Box 188, Prosperity, SC 29127.
