William Welford “Butch” Moates, 70, of Batesburg, died Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Born on August 16, 1956, he was a son of Betty Jane Terry Hall and the late Olin Moates. Butch had been a truck driver.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Brandon Moates; daughter, Mary Jane McGowan; brothers, James Moates, Larry Moates, Harvey Moates, Carl Moates and Kenneth Moates; girlfriend, Carol Williams; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
