Willie Mae Banks Griffin Lipscomb

Willie Mae Banks Griffin Lipscomb, 92, of Newberry, widow of Thomas Benson “Bill” Griffin and Eugene Lipscomb, died Friday, June 10, 2022, at her residence.

Born on August 8,1929, in Newberry, SC, she was the daughter of John F. Banks and Agnes Lucille Long Banks. She was retired after 30 years as a clothing inspector for Damon Corporation. She was the oldest surviving member of Cannon’s Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

She will be remembered as a strong woman of faith who was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She believed in working hard and expected the same of others. Always standing by her family, she shared her strength to be positive in all situations.

Her green thumb and love of flowers and other pretty things was enjoyed by many. Another favorite pastime was spending time and talking with her many friends. She spent many retirement years with her late husband enjoying their home on Lake Murray and traveling. Until her health declined the past two years, she was truly young at heart and loved life.

With loving memories, she is survived by her son, Rodney (Sarah) Griffin, her daughter-in-law, Helen Griffin, her grandchildren, Dina McCormack, Tammy (Rusty) Rice, Jill Riebe (Brett Bannister), Shay (Jesse) Dube’, Kara (Eric) Cannon, Neil (Jessica) Dipner, and seventeen great and great-great grandchildren, In addition to her late husbands, she was predeceased by two sons, Jon Reginald Griffin and Carroll Wesley Griffin, a daughter-in-law, Linda Cook Griffin, and a grandson, James Benson Griffin (Ben). She was also predeceased by her sister, Rosene Banks Willard and two brothers, Carol Eugene Banks and John Frank Banks, Jr.
