I grew up with Karen. Our farms were side by side in SD. I have such fabulous memories of sleep-overs, herding cows, bike rides and walking to school down quiet gravel roads. We went to a one-room country school house through the 8th grade and then to high-school together. We lost touch later and had only sporadic contact but every contact with Karen was a treat. Her kindness and zest for life were her unmistakable trade mark. I just learned of her passing and feel a loss even from a distance. What a courageous friend.

Denny,
I am very sorry for your loss. I met Karen back in 1970, we were both had our first children one day apart. We both were working at the Stockyards cafe, Sioux Falls.
I met you years later. Our kids were still growing up.
I believe it was at one of her kids graduations.
Before Karen passed in Sept. she called me several times
until then i didn't know she had been battling cancer.
She said i thought i had told you.
We had nice talks ,though the past years and meet her once for coffee, and of course she never missed sending a Christmas card.
She talked about your work and how blessed she was to have you in her life.
I will always remember Karen, and think of her dearly.
She had just gotten home when she called me . I knew it was near. She was so strong in faith.I know she is home with our Lord.
Please E-Mail me,
Sincerely.

Dear Denny: I cannot tell you how very sorry Mark and I are about losing Karen. We loved her so, and we love you also. You are our "friends," friends that come along once in a lifetime. I will miss her smile, our phone calls, long talks, driving crazy in the convertible, eating ice cream, sharing iced tea, big hugs. She was one in a million, and we were truly blessed to have had the both of you in our lives. May God be with her and you during this sad time. She is truly an angel. Please Denny - if there is anything at all that you need, please call us. We love you. Kathy and Mark Burns

Denny and family, I cannot tell you what a brilliant ray of sunshine Karen was to me and to the whole world. Her energy and affinity to do good in the world was phenomenal and I will always treasure knowing her. I knew her less than 1 year and can tell you the scope of her influence is boundless, for me and to the many people who prayed for her and knew her through me. To say she was a blessing is certain. My love to you all, and may God's love carry you through your grief. As for me, I know she is a daughter of God and how sweet to know she is with Him now. Love, Nancy

Denny, there are no words to describe my feelings for Karen. She was a sister, friend, mentor - loved by myself, husband and children. I shared so very many precious memories with her and have my late parents to thank for opening their doors years ago and welcoming her in. She was always constant, loving, caring and willing to help me through many difficult times growing up. I will absolutely miss her laughter, criticism and insight. As the years grew on we shared phone calls - her voice was welcoming to my ears. I am so sorry for your loss yet thankful as are you to know that she is at peace with those who were waiting to welcome her home.

Go in PEACE Karen....love you always....Kathy .
