George Hawkins Shannon, 53, of Newberry, died March 11, 2015.

Born on April 3, 1961, in Newberry, he was a son of Elizabeth Hawkins Shannon and the late William Henry Shannon, Jr. He was a 1979 graduate of Newberry High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the College of Charleston in 1984. He was a retired financial advisor and a member of Central United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his mother of Newberry, and by his brother, Henry Shannon of Newberry. He was predeceased by a special aunt, Josephine Shannon.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Saturday, at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tresco Shannon and by the Rev. Jim Williams. A private interment will be held in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. The memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 67, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the American Diabetes Association, 107 Westpark Boulevard, Suite 220, Columbia, SC 29210.

I also met george thru lee. Had many great times together. Could go thru numerous storeys. Will never forget you man. You are with the big man upstairs now. see you soon. Hopefully not to soon, but looking forward to it.

Ms. Shannon and Henry - I was sadden to hear of the passing of George. I think back of the great times we had together playing Church Basketball and attending Spartanburg Methodist College. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.
