Harry E. Cromer, Sr.

Harry Emanuel Cromer, Sr., 95, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 27, 2021.

Born on October 2, 1925 in Newberry County, Harry was the son of the late John Emanuel and Janie Sease Cromer. He was a United States Navy veteran and a graduate of the University of North Carolina. While at Chapel Hill he met Carolyn Collins and they were married September 2, 1949. An avid sports fan, he followed his alma mater and Clemson enthusiastically. Harry was an accomplished baseball pitcher. He shared a love of history and collecting antiques with his wife. Harry was employed with Prentice Hall Publishing Company and Zaner Bloser. In 1971 he purchased the Imperial Pool franchise for South Carolina, which later evolved into Cromer Pools. This company is one of the oldest pool companies in the state. He was truly a pioneer of the swimming pool industry in South Carolina. A member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer for over 60 years, Harry served as a church treasurer and numerous terms of church council. He was president of the hospitality committee and also played and coached church league softball.

Harry is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Collins Cromer. They were days short of celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary. He was a proud father of three children, Jan Cromer Lowrey (Andy) of Columbia; Harry E. Cromer, Jr. (“Bubba” and Lynn) of Newberry; and John Malone Cromer (Lee Cooper) of Columbia. Grandchildren include Fran Cromer Gray (Hugh), Harry Cromer, III (Whitney), Collins Reingart (Chad), Allison Gilbert (Chad), and Anna Beth Huffstetler (Lucas). His nine great-grandchildren are Catherine, Matthew, and Andrew Moyd; Julia Collins and Harrison Cromer; James and William Reingart; and Neely and Landon Gilbert. Harry was predeceased by his siblings Carolyn Ruff, Dorothy Ragsdale, and John Earl Cromer.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2021, at Rosemont Cemetery by the Reverend Matthew Titus. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1515 Boundary Street, Newberry, South Carolina, 29108.

The family would like to thank Dr. Carroll Pinner, Dr. Michael Bernado, Gwendy Wheeler, and the staff of Springfield Place for their compassionate care.

So sorry to find out about his passing. He was a very special man. Both my parents adored him, and my grandmother Dot Cromer also spoke very highly of him. No matter what was going on, he always had that special smile that made me smile. I know his family will miss him and condolences to his beautiful wife and children.
