Raymond Costello

Raymond Thomas Costello, 61, of Newberry, died Thursday, August 18, 2011, at his residence.

Born on July 15, 1950, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he was a son of Emilio Costello and the Lena Murrell (Leland) Hazel. He was a member of Faith Assembly of God, served in the SC Army National Guard and was employed by West Frasier.

Mr. Costello is survived in addition to his father by his wife, Lessie Harrison Costello; daughters, Rita (Brandon) Crawford, Jessica Costello Griffen, Stacy (Ray) Jewell, Brandy Miller and Sandy Jackson; sons, Jimmy Harrison and Christopher (Brittney Neal) Miller; brother, Larry (Shelby) Hazel; sister, Patsy (O’Neal) Lindler; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2011, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home by the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe and Mr. Joey Bodie. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Active pallbearers: Timmy Bodie, Jimmy Russ, Cole Bouknight, Larry “Earl” Hazel, Jr., Leo Crawley, and Christopher Miller

Honorary pallbearers: Chris Miller, Joey Bodie, Lee Kopeland, Brandon Crawford, Mike Agnew and Bobby Bannister

Raymond would like to thank everyone for their love and support during his last few difficult months.

The world is a sadder place. Raymond, you were a good friend. I am so grateful to have seen you two weeks ago,I cherish that moment. You fought a brave and courageous battle and now you can rest. To the family, please accept my sincere sympathy. Raymond was a good guy and you have lost so much. Please find some peace knowing that others are praying for your comfort.

I was deeply sorrowed to hear of Raymond's passing, since we have worked together for the last 35 + yrs. Ever since I have known him he made it a joy to work with each day. My prayers are with you Raymond and your family. He was a good man.

So sorry to hear about Raymond. During the tornado of 1984, he lived just below my parents and show so much kindness, in helping to protect their home by spreading tarps. Our sympathy to the family.

The last time I talked to Raymond was when he came over to my dad to wish him a happy 92nd birthday last month. I extend my sympathy to you as he was always such a nice and pleasant neighbor to see around.
